Frequently Asked Questions
"We define a birth doula as a professional support person trained in the needs of the family during pregnancy and childbirth. The doula offers non-judgmental support, guidance, evidence based education and practical hands-on support during childbirth including comfort measures. Doula originates from the Greek word meaning woman servant. A birth doula recognizes the profound impact of childbirth on the mother."
Why should I hire you as my doula?
You should hire me because I love educating my clients about birth to help ensure the best possible birth outcomes. Since I am a certified childbirth educator, as well, my goal is always to relay my knowledge to you in a way that is easy to comprehend, ensuring you are as prepared for your birth as possible. Birth is transformative, so my goal is for you to look back on your experience in a positive way!
Can you only use a birth doula if you are planning an unmedicated birth?
No! Whether you are planning an unmedicated birth or not, I am there for you. I will offer you pain management support and techniques prior to you getting your epidural, during the procedure, and in the event that the epidural does not completely take away your discomfort. Basically, I am there to support you and to help you navigate this life changing event in whatever way you need, epidural or not.
How will hiring you as my doula affect my partner’s role during the birth?
It truly depends on the partner. I will never replace or interfere with your partner's role during birth, so long as your partner is physically present and wanting to be involved. Regardless of how hands-on or off your partner wants to be, my goal is always to ensure that you have the support you need. A partner has history with you as the mother and offers you love and comfort in that way, while I offer you my skills, experience, and education as a doula and childbirth educator.
What does unlimited text, call, and email support mean?
My regular business hours are Mondays (M), Wednesdays (W), and Thursdays (Th) from 9am to 5pm, and Tuesdays (T) and Fridays (F) from 10am to 2pm. All prospective and current clients can reach out to me during these times with any questions! Prior to 37 weeks, when the 24/7 on call support begins, I will respond to your messages during my regular business hours.
Do you offer consultations?
Of course! We have to make sure we are a good fit for each other before committing to anything. Let's set up a FREE 30 minute consultation! During this time, I encourage you to tell me your plans for your birth so I know how best to support you.
How much will your doula support cost me?
My standard rate is $1,200.00. This includes two prenatal support appointments, 24/7 on-call support beginning at 37 weeks, continuous labor and birth support, and one postpartum support visit. In addition, it also includes continuous support via text, call, or email during your pregnancy and the first 6 weeks after your birth. Refer to the services page for more details on the services you receive when you hire me as your doula!
Please note that payment plans are available, but in most cases I do require that payment is made in full by 37 weeks. Friends and family and repeat client discounts available.
